Nintendo has announced that Star Fox Adventures has been added to the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics app on Switch 2.

Originally released in 2002 and developed by Rare, Adventures is a Legend of Zelda-style action-adventure take on the rail-shooting Star Fox series.

Fox McCloud partners up with Tricky, a young prince of the Triceratops-like EarthWalker tribe, as they journey across Dinosaur Planet to defeat the tyrannical General Scales. The game also introduces Krystal, a mysterious blue fox seeking answers for her parents’ deaths.

An active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is required to access the game and the rest of the GameCube library. It’s $49.99 for a year or membership.

The history behind Star Fox Adventures

Development of Star Fox Adventures began with a project called Dinosaur Planet, a Nintendo 64 title developed by Rare that was originally unrelated to the Star Fox franchise. Nintendo proposed to Rare to combine the game with its own in-progress Star Fox concept, and the project shifted to a GameCube release.

A playable build of Dinosaur Planet was released in 2021. The development stage of this prototype was such that Star Fox characters had been added, but it was before the move to the GameCube.
