We first learned of Hollow Knight: Silksong six years ago and the game has seemed almost mythical ever since. We’ve gotten hardly any news on the game, other than occasional updates from Team Cherry that the game is still coming. It seems the nightmare may be over as Silksong was showcased in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct today, with a release date of 2025!

Silksong was very briefly shown, but including it in such a momentous event is huge. Nintendo obviously wants its new console to have all the heavy-hitters, and showing off Silksong has revitalized interest in the sequel, as well as giving hope to all fans that have long-awaited the game.

Earlier this year, a huge easter egg was teased by one of the co-directors from Team Cherry, showing a piece of chocolate cake and teasing an announcement on January 16th. That announcement was the first reveal of the Switch 2, and when fans reverse searched the cake image, they discovered it was published a year ago, on April 2nd, 2024. It seemingly directed fans to watch today’s Direct for more news, which paid off.

There’s still a chance Silksong could be delayed, as the release window is quite large. But if Nintendo is confident enough to show the game off during the Switch 2 Direct, it shows to me that the game is either near completion or is ready to go. Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer to finally get a chance to play Silksong!
