Leading up to Pokémon Day on February 27th, The Pokémon Company has teased that they’ll be celebrating the series’ different regions with art and announcements for a variety of games. Yesterday, the focus was on the mobile game Pokémon Masters EX, but for today it’s all about the Galar region with Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Announced via one of the official Japanese Twitter accounts for the Pokémon games, Max Raid Battles featuring Gigantamax versions of Kanto’s iconic fully evolved starters are now appearing frequently in Pokémon Dens.

The announcement was also made available in English via the Pokémon HOME app.

“To celebrate Pokémon Day on February 27, Gigantamax Venusaur, Gigantamax Charizard, and Gigantamax Blastoise will appear in Max Raid Battles until February 27, 2022 at 23:59 UTC. These Pokémon are pretty tough, but if you can win against them, you’ll obtain a Max Mushroom!

To encounter these Pokémon in a Max Raid Battle, you’ll need to connect your Nintendo Switch system to the internet. Then, whenever you see a pillar of light shining from a Pokémon Den in the Wild Area or elsewhere, you can walk up to the Pokémon Den and interact with it to start a Max Raid Battle with a Dynamax Pokémon. Usually, there’ll be an extremely small possibility a Gigantamax Pokémon will appear instead of a Dynamax Pokémon, but during an event, certain Gigantamax Pokémon are more likely to appear.

This event does not affect the Pokémon encountered within Dynamax Adventures.”

For Trainers in the US, that means you’ll have until Sunday, February 27th, 2022 at 3:59 p.m. PT | 6:59 p.m. ET to encounter Gigantamax Venusaur, Gigantamax Charizard, and Gigantamax Blastoise during this special event. Better take a trip to Galar today via your copy of Pokémon Sword and/or Shield, as more announcements are on the way this week. Plus, right before Pokémon Day, there will be the all-day event Pokémon GO Tour: Johto! It’s certainly a busy, yet fun week, for Pokémon fans of all ages.
