Announced back during the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct, we now know when to expect the Splatoon 2 crossover event we never knew we wanted. The Super Mario Power-Up Splatfest is slated for next month, and at least in Japan, beginning on Saturday, January 16th.

With the scale of the Splatfest and the potential for real, physical prizes, it’s likely that this will be a simultaneous worldwide event. For further details, though, keep an eye out for a North American update to plan with your team on times.

In Japan, at least, 300 participants can potentially win Super Mario 35th Anniversary Splatoon 2 medals. The top 100 players on each team will be gifted the medal, while 100 more will be distributed via lottery to participants on both teams.

Whether you’re set to embiggen your scores with Team Super Mushroom or shine with the Super Stars, look forward to North American specific details on this upcoming Super Mario Splatfest in the future (hopefully soon).
