As a matter of fact, L is indeed real this time around! Super Mario Bros. 35 is the limited time battle-royale side-scroller that has turned the first installment of the Mushroom Kingdom into a madhouse of enemy obstacles and time-attacks. As if unlocking every individual course in the game was not difficult enough, players are now discovering that Mario’s younger brother (and original player-two character) Luigi is actually playable.

As seen in the footage above capture by Twitter user @CombotronRobot, by holding down the L-button while selecting a course, Mario will be replaced with Luigi when playing a match. However, players can only use Luigi once they have reached a Star Rank. Star Ranks are achieved by gaining a level 100 player ranking.

Super Mario Bros. 35 will be permanently ending its run at the end of March 2021, but there is still time to take the title of champion and possibly discover more in-game secrets!
