Initially shared by Nintendo of Japan during the super-stuffed news day all about Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary, Nintendo of America has confirmed that those shiny collectible coins aren’t exclusive to Japan.

Announced alongside today’s announcement about the Super Mario Maker 2 Ninji Speedrun Online Challenge, the top 35 players will receive the Super Mario Maker 2 themed Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary coin. Nintendo went on to clarify that the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 2 coins will be prizes for future competitions and to please wait for more details in the future.

As for the first of these competitions, we have access to the info and rules about the Super Mario Maker 2 Ninji Speedrun Online Challenge. According to the rules, this competition is open to “legal residents of the 50 United States (including D.C.) or Canada (including Quebec)” and you must be “at least 13 years old at the time of entry[.]” Meet that criteria plus have access to a Nintendo Switch, Super Mario Maker 2, and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership (individual, family, or trial), you can register on the challenge’s dedicated webpage.
The competition will be active for one week: Tuesday, November 17th, 2020 6:00 p.m. PT to Tuesday, November 24th, 2020 6:00 p.m. PT. Winners will be notified around Monday, January 18th, 2021, and prizes will be shipped out that same month.
Unlike Japan, we didn’t see any announcements about a potential raffle for these coins. Here’s hoping that we’ll see them reappear again and not capped at 35.
