Capcom’s Ultra Street Fighter II has been a great addition to my own Switch library. A touched up version of one of my favorite games, I thought I’d see everything it had to offer back when I reviewed it. There was one last surprise though, in the form of a playable version of Shin Akuma accessed via a classic style cheat code. Check out the video below to see him in action and find out how to access the raging demon.

The steps to play as Shin Akuma are actually a cool reference in their own right. As shown, all you have to do is the following:

  • Select Ryu, be on color 1, then cancel.
  • Select Ken, be on color 9, then cancel.
  • Select Sagat, be on color 8, then cancel.
  • Select M. Bison, be on color 7, then cancel.
  • Scroll to Random, then press L & R at the same time.

And there he’ll be, in all his purposely overpowered and unbalanced glory. If you don’t see the importance of those seemingly random color numbers, note how together they form “1987,” aka the year Street Fighter first began. It’s a great nod in celebration of the series’ 30th anniversary, and it adds just one more thing to USFII.
