The eShop on the original Nintendo Switch has received a significant overhaul, allowing for much faster and easier browsing than before.
The redesign was introduced by Switch firmware update 22.5.0, which also adds a dark mode option to the eShop if the console’s theme is set to “Basic Dark.”
Before the update, the eShop operated within a web-based interface, which was likely what caused its slow performance. That has now been replaced with a native app, allowing for a much smoother experience.

Users can now apply a PIN code when accessing the eShop and using saved payment methods as a security measure.
When a full-screen video in the News or eShop apps is playing, the ZL and ZR buttons will now rewind or advance by 10 seconds.
A 22.5.0 update has also been released for Switch 2, which adds new Dutch and Russian accessibility options. “General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience” have been added for both systems.
Complaints about the eShop’s performance, and the lack of content moderation, have been frequent since the Nintendo Switch launched in 2017. As a result, Nintendo is now reportedly “cagey” about which games it allows on the Switch 2 eShop, according to New Blood Interactive CEO Dave Oshry.
