New data has revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 has hit a major sales milestone in the UK, reaching the mark much faster than its predecessor.

A report from The Game Business shows that the Switch 2 has shifted 1 million units in the market, 30 weeks faster than the original Nintendo Switch.

In addition, Switch 2 is already the sixth bestselling console ever in the UK, tied with the Xbox One. The achievement is particularly notable given that Nintendo has historically performed less strongly there than in many other territories.

“Nintendo’s position in the UK is weaker than other markets,” the report reads.

“Globally, Switch 1 is the second best-selling console of all time, but in the UK it currently trails PS2, Xbox 360, Wii and PS4 in terms of lifetime sales.”

The new sales benchmark comes just before the Nintendo Switch 2 turns a year old this week, with the system launching on June 5th, 2025.

The console has shifted 20 million units worldwide. With the recently announced price increase – which will see the Switch 2 jump from $449.99 to $499.99 from September 1st – Nintendo is expecting a downturn in sales for the remainder of 2026.
