Metroid Dread made quite the splash as it docked its spaceship on the Nintendo Switch last year. Launching alongside the Nintendo Switch OLED model in October 2021, the game broke the record for the franchise’s best launch month in the US. Always the relentless type, however, bounty hunter Samus Aran isn’t done making milestones yet.
According to GamesIndustry.biz head Christopher Dring, Metroid Dread has become the third-bestselling game in the series’ history in the UK. The game currently sits under the first and third entries in the Metroid Prime series respectively, though as Dring points out, the sales data for Dread doesn’t include digital sales, so it may, in fact, have already have taken the top spot. It is already the UK’s bestselling 2D Metroid game.
Metroid Dread is now the third biggest Metroid game in UK history, behind Metroid Prime and Prime 3. It’s already the UK’s best-selling 2D Metroid. This doesn’t include digital sales, so it’s quite likely it’s now, or will soon be, the No.1 Metroid overall (GfK data)

Metroid Dread’s success in the UK was evident as soon as it debuted, instantly taking the third spot in the weekly sales chart and becoming the highest-grossing launch for a Metroid game in the region.
The game received a free update last month which introduced two new difficulty modes: Rookie Mode and Dread mode. Another free update is set to release in April, which will add a Boss Rush Mode.
