The last week or so has seen unprecedented access to the Nintendo Switch 2 and its games’ inner workings thanks to an exploit discovered last week with the help of OpenAI. Among other things, this exploit has led to several Switch 2 titles being datamined, including the game used to originally demonstrate that the hack worked, Mario Kart World. New info from this datamine, shared by Super Mario Bros. Wonder modder and YouTuber Rimea and discovered by mondomega on BlueSky, points to currently unplayable drivers in Mario Kart World.

There are nine total drivers indicated in the datamine:

  • Thwomp
  • Blooper
  • Ninji
  • Goomba Twins
  • Chain Chomp
  • Fuzzy
  • bird
  • Banana
  • Spiny

It’s worth noting that there’s really no way to tell if these drivers were simply cut at some point in development, if they’re planned for unannounced DLC, or some combination of both. Some of the above drivers are currently present in the game in other ways, like as items or obstacles. Despite Mario Kart World’s huge roster, there are currently no playable drivers that are also usable items, which may explain the absence of Blooper and Banana as drivers, though again, there’s no way to really tell what happened with these drivers.

I’m sure this is only the tip of the iceberg of new info coming out about the Switch 2’s previously un-datamine-able library of games, so keep your eyes peeled for more info coming out from those titles.
