After letting rumors float around for the past week, developer Aspyr has officially announced that Shrek 2 Remastered will be hitting PC and consoles in the near future. Set to release on November 10th, 2026, with an official Nintendo Switch 2 edition in tow, Aspyr uploaded a brief trailer which parodies the official Grand Theft Auto 6 launch trailer with similar theming and music. I’m not sure that anyone was truly waiting for a remaster of this game, but I do remember it being fairly decent back in 2004.
As per the Steam store listing, Shrek 2 Remastered has “been rebuilt with better textures, enhanced UI, 4K resolution and cutscenes.” A new photo mode lets players capture moments with a bunch of different filters, and a “Cheat Mode” will let you break the game to your heart’s content. Seeing as how co-op was a big selling point of the original game, Aspyr has included the option for offline, online, and mixed format co-op so you can get all of your friends involved. I don’t quite remember if seamless character swapping as in the OG game, but that is also a feature here.
I’m more surprised that a Switch 1 port is happening, but then the Switch 1 is still available on store shelves. It would be silly to dismiss the 156.59 million units in the wild, even if the Switch 2 has picked up tremendous momentum this past year. Clearly, you can ignore the 4K part if you intend to buy this on Nintendo’s last generation device, but make sure you want it on that console. There doesn’t appear to be an upgrade path judging by eShop listings for the game.
Shrek 2 Remastered release date
Shrek 2 Remastered will hit PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and Switch 2 on November 10th, 2026, for $30. A 10% pre-purchase discount is available until November 9th on consoles, and November 17th on PC.
