The Switch 2 has been a resounding success for Nintendo since it launched last June. Despite a price increase and extreme uncertainty around the global economy, people have flocked to Nintendo Switch 2 as a cheaper alternative for gaming and there’s a good reason. It not only houses most third-party games, but it provides them at a level of quality that is a dramatic step above its predecessor. That isn’t a happy accident, either, at least according to Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard.
In a new interview with Variety, Pritchard outlined her master plan for ensuring the Switch 2 becomes as big a success as the Switch 1. Among her plans? “We want to provide a diversity in terms of the types of experiences that you can have on the game system, and that’s really important for us.” She explains how Nintendo’s philosophy has always been that the company is “for ages 5 to 95,” so it’s been important to house not only games for children, but games for adults as well.
Naturally, this led to Variety asking about Grand Theft Auto VI, which is launching on November 19th, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Switch 2 is certainly capable enough to handle the game, but developer Rockstar hasn’t showed any intention of bringing the game to Nintendo’s latest console. Pritchard told the outlet, “That’s going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.”

That hasn’t deterred Pritchard, though. The latest Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, will be releasing day and date on Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S (October 23rd, 2026), and the console has seen good success with games such as Cyberpunk 2077. Capcom has been a big supporter of the platform, too, bringing all of its 2026 titles on to the device and even porting Monster Hunter Wilds in a few months. As Pritchard says, “we want to make sure we’re a platform where people can come in and have those different types of creative experiences and have fun.”
