A quirky ROM hack of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has turned the classic fantasy game into a frantic game of soccer.
Created by modder Shon J, the work-in-progress project includes a wide variety of players, from main characters to NPCs — meaning you could have Link avoid a tackle by a Goron, pass the ball to Skull Kid, who then pelts it into the goal past Dampe the goalkeeper.
The game also includes an off-the-wall character creator, where you can mix and match body parts of the many character models. It’s here that users can place a Cucco head atop Ganondorf’s torso, add Princess Ruto’s legs and Talon’s running animation, and give the resulting abomination a custom name.
Teams are based on the various locations from Ocarina of Time, with Kokiri FC, Kakariko City, and Zora United just some of the available options. Players can even designate each character to specific positions on the pitch.
The video below shows 30 minutes of gameplay of the 0.1 build, though a 0.3 version has since been released.
The mod is available to download from the Hylian Modding server on Discord, which has a dedicated Soccerina of Time channel. Shon J plans to issue more updates in the future, so there will undoubtedly be even more Hyrule-flavored, sports-based lunacy to come.
