Resellers are attempting to peddle empty cartons of Krispy Kreme’s limited-edition Pokémon doughnut assortments for absurd prices online.
A search on eBay (via GamesRadar+) shows there are a number of sellers pricing the empty boxes as high as $100. There are also listings for the five collectible cups from the Krispy Kreme promotion demanding figures far beyond the original price.
Krispy Kreme announced its official US Pokémon collaboration last week, celebrating 30 years of the franchise. Available at participating locations is an assortment box of six doughnuts themed around Gen 1 favorites Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Jigglypuff, as well as a Poké Ball. The collectible cups also feature designs of the five Kanto critters.
It’s not uncommon for resellers to swoop in on official Pokémon goods and sell them for obscene prices, especially when it comes to the Trading Card Game. Many fans are in disbelief, however, that scalpers would stoop as low as auctioning empty Krispy Kreme boxes.
“So they’re not just scalping Pokemon cards, but the EMPTY DONUT BOXES?!!?!?” said one X user. “Is having good things as a 90s nerd just NO LONGER ALLOWED anymore?!”
“There are only 4 Krispy Kreme locations within a 100 mile radius of me, and ALL of them are completely sold out of the preorders,” lamented another user on the platform.
“Drives me absolutely NUTS how scalpers have ruined quite literally everything.”
