A talented DIY enthusiast has transformed a popular children’s toy into a fully functional Game Boy Color.
YouTuber KOUZEX (via Time Extension) used Fisher-Price’s “Lil’ Gamer,” a toy for toddlers that already looks a lot like the classic Nintendo handheld, and implanted the innards of a Game Boy Color.
The video runs through the entire process, and as is often the case with projects like this, KOUZEX ran into a few problems along the way. Ultimately, however, he was successful in running Pokémon Yellow within the Fisher-Price shell.
The final result includes a shiny AMOLED screen, a cartridge slot in the back, and a USB-C port for charging. The modder also repurposed the blocky side controls for volume sliders.
KOUZEX shared a video of a similar project earlier in the year, where he turned a Fisher-Price “Twist & Learn Gamer” toy into a device that plays Game Boy Advance games.
