In typical Nintendo fashion, the company has made a rather big announcement in the middle of the night on a random day of the week. This time, The Big N has confirmed that the GameCube classic Super Mario Sunshine will be hitting Switch Online on August 13th, 2026. Announced last year when it was revealed that GameCube games would be joining Nintendo Switch Online for Switch 2 owners, a trailer shows that this is pure emulation rather than some kind of remastered version like the one included in Super Mario 3D All-Stars. That’s to be expected, but still a little disappointing.
Virtual Boy app update incoming
What isn’t disappointing is an update coming to the Virtual Boy app. On August 4th, 2026, players will finally be able to change the color filter on the VB app to their liking. Teased back when the app was announced, Nintendo outlines how players will be able to tweak the color to their liking. You just need to hold down the Right Control Stick, then press L or R to cycle through different palettes.
Color filters aren’t the only thing coming to the Virtual Boy app, however. Both Zero Racers and D-Hopper, two unreleased Virtual Boy games, will finally make their global debut on the same day. Zero Racers is something of an F-Zero spinoff while D-Hopper was originally known under the title “Dragon Hopper.” Developed by Intelligent Systems (known for Fire Emblem, WarioWare, and Paper Mario), the game was cancelled because of the Virtual Boy’s demise rather than being axed due to development troubles.
All told, this is a pretty good update to NSO for subscribers. The VB app has only been available since earlier this year, but has received a pretty steady update of games. We’re nearly at the end of the console’s entire library, however, so it won’t be long before every promised game is playable.
