The Tales of series has largely focused on its more modern titles, not daring to delve further back than Tales of Symphonia despite being in the midst of a 30th anniversary revival project. Thankfully, that’ll all change later this year when the first 2D title from the game’s history gets some love via Tales of Eternia Remastered.

Originally released in 2000, Tales of Eternia is the story of Reid Hershel and a group of allies attempting to prevent disaster threatening two separate but intertwined worlds. While this one came to the west back on Playstation, it was titled “Tales of Destiny II” despite having no real connection to the previously released Tales of Destiny.

Eternia as a whole is often overlooked in the series’ history, with the occasional cameo (Reid could be fought in Symphonia, for example), though it did receive a PSP re-release in 2005 that skipped North America. Luckily, we won’t be missing out on this one when Tales of Eternia Remastered comes to Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and other platforms on October 16th.
