New behind-the-scenes details have emerged for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, revealing how a climactic scene evolved thanks to the efforts of a particular Ianimator.
GamesRadar+ published an exclusive first look at one of the film’s bonus featurettes, which delves into the creative process of a major moment towards the end of the movie.

The sequence where Princess Peach frees Rosalina from her cell was originally intended to be shorter and simpler, but Illumination character animator Charlotte Mansard “wanted to do something very epic.”
“It’s a touching and powerful moment at the end of the movie,” Mansard said of the end result.
“We had no specific direction. So they trusted me and gave me free rein to direct the entire shot.”
Mansard decided to extend the scene to give it the prominence it deserved.
“Initially, the shot was only 30 frames, it ended with the explosion, but I thought, ‘What if we add 400 frames?’” she laughed.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is available now on digital platforms, with 4K and Blu-ray releases arriving on June 16th. The upcoming home releases will feature “over an hour of never-before-seen bonus content,” including the featurette described in this article.
