According to a report from ScreenRant, it looks as if the next Super Mario Bros. movie will be hitting theaters sometime in 2029. This information comes courtesy of Keegan-Michael Key, voice actor of Toad in the previous two films. As he states, “‘29 is better than sometime, right?”

In the full quote, Key states:

“We want to get it right. We want to get everything right. We want to get all the details right. And Michael and Aaron, who are our directors, have a real passion for this. I think they’re as passionate about these projects as the audience is. And so we got to get it right, we got to get it right. So I apologize. But it’ll be worth the wait. It’ll be worth the wait…’29 is better than sometime, right?”

That phrasing kind of implies the last two movies weren’t right, but that aside, the timeframe matches up. The Super Mario Bros. Movie released in 2023 and was followed-up three years later by The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. If Universal and Illumination keep up that cadence, then 2029 makes sense for whatever the third film winds up being. Some people have speculated that it could be pushed into 2030 to coincide with the 45th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise, but I don’t think Nintendo would want to wait just for a celebration (especially since the Galaxy Movie is for Mario’s 40th, which was last year anyway).
