Likely to make up for the lack of a Dragon Quest XII, Square Enix revealed that Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be heading to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 24th, 2026. Coming as a brand-new “Definitive Edition,” the port will obviously feature higher resolution output and smoother performance than its Switch 1 counterpart, but there is also said to be new story chapters that put different party members front and center.

In a trailer for the port, we see that a full English dub is included, which the description reads, “Japanese voice and additional English voices.” I’m fairly certain the previous version had this, but there might be some new dialogue. The Definitive Edition also retains the ability to switch between 2D and 3D versions of the game as well as the orchestral score that was included for S. There’s a mention of “Graphics” and “Performance” toggles, too, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Sadly, Dragon Quest X S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition will not have an upgrade option for owners of the current Switch release. It’s also priced at $40, which is maybe better than $60, but still kind of a lot for a game that goes for $20 on every other platform. To rub salt in the wound, it will also be a Game-Key Card release physically.
