During today’s Dragon Quest update stream, Square Enix announced a brand-new entry in the Dragon Quest Monsters spinoff series. Titled Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, the game is said to be “coming soon” to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. It will also feature the dual protagonists from Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, which is a fun little throwback. Apart from that, we’ve got nothing else to really go on.

In Japan, the game will be titled Dragon Quest Monsters 4, which doesn’t sound as mysterious as the localized title. Still, these games are an interesting diversion from the main series in that they still feature JRPG gameplay, but are fashioned more like Pokémon. Square Enix has gone back and forth on releasing these games in the West, but the previous title, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, came to Switch in 2023 globally. By all accounts, it was a decent little game.
