The director of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy has assured fans that the third and final installment is progressing as planned.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Director Naoki Hamaguchi said he was “unable to share concrete details at this time,” but had some promising words to say about the finale.

“What I can say is that development itself is proceeding on time and on schedule,” he said.

“We believe it’ll become a title we can deliver with confidence as the culmination of the trilogy. We know many fans are eagerly waiting, and preparations toward the announcement are steadily underway. Please look forward to it just a little longer.”

Hamaguchi also said that the team is aiming to push the limits even further with the untitled third game, expanding on what’s come before.

“Across the entire remake project, the guiding philosophy has been to progressively expand the scale of the gameplay experience with each entry, rather than repeat the same experience,” he explained.

“For the third installment, we’re not thinking about simply wrapping up everything we’ve built until this point. Rather, we’re focused on how the full scale of the series we’ve been aiming for could ultimately be realized as a complete experience.”

A playable demo for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second game in the trilogy, released for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S this week. It covers Chapters 1 and 2 and offers some bonuses that players can carry over to the full game when it launches on June 3rd, 2026.
