It’s still weird to read stories like this, but modders have made an unofficial port of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask for the PlayStation Vita. As reported by Time Extension, developer Rinnegatamante has used the work done by the team behind Majora’s Mask’s unofficial PC port to bring the game to Sony’s cult-classic handheld. Released on April 12th, 2026, it initially had some bugs with control mapping problems and out-of-bounds glitches, but a quick hotfix has fixed a few issues.
Some screenshots shared on Twitter show a remarkably clean looking conversion that could potentially fool people unaware of the background behind this port. Similar to the PC port, this Vita version of Majora’s Mask features true widescreen output, remappable controls, enhanced effects, skippable cutscenes, built-in cheat codes, and mod support. You will have to provide a copy of the N64 ROM to get this working, not to mention have a jailbroken PS Vita, but it’s otherwise easy to get running.

I’m always impressed when I see fans using their love for certain games to create enhanced versions of them. It’s impressive to create a faithful port with zero access to the original source code, having to use reverse engineering to create something that comes close to the OG game. My one hope is that Nintendo sees the support these ports are getting and releases a mere “HD” version of its older games with no changes apart from widescreen and quality-of-life fixes.
