In an update from Cinema Con 2026 yesterday, Sony Pictures announced that filming has wrapped on the live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Sadly, that’s about the extent of the details we have as Sony didn’t reveal any new footage, show off a poster, or even give us a title. The film is still on track for a May 7th, 2027, release date, so there’s more than a year to go before it finally hits theaters.
So far, all we know is that director Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) will be helming the picture with relative newcomers Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Pinocchio, Everything’s Going to Be Great) and Bo Bragson (Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, The Radleys) starring as Link and Zelda, respectively. The one released photo from the set gives off Breath of the Wild vibes, which makes sense considering that particular game is the most popular in the entire series.

The news about Zelda came amid of flurry of announcements from Sony Pictures, the majority of which revolved around Spider-Man. Spider-Man’s next MCU outing, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, got a new poster and some extra footage while the hotly anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse received a couple of new screenshots. That’s all well and good, but it was followed by the announcement of an animated Bloodborne movie, of all things.
