The voice of Luigi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Charlie Day, has the perfect actor in mind for the potential role of Wario in a future Mario film.

ScreenRant asked Day what his “dream casting pick” would be for Mario’s arch-rival, and he responded by choosing his It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star.

“Danny [DeVito] would fit so well in this universe, and he would be a good Wario, I think,” Day said.

Other stars from the Galaxy Movie were also asked for casting picks. Princess Peach actress Anya Taylor-Joy named Jessica Lange (though couldn’t decide who she should play), while Toad actor Keegan-Michael Key chose Chloë Grace Moretz to play Princess Daisy.

Many fans have been clamoring for DeVito to play Wario since The Super Mario Bros. Movie debuted in 2023. DeVito himself showed enthusiasm for the role when the idea was put to him in a 2024 interview.

Pokémon fans also petitioned for DeVito to voice Detective Pikachu in the 2016 3DS game. The team behind the 2019 Detective Pikachu movie even tested casting the actor, animating an early version of Pikachu with assorted lines from DeVito’s previous roles.
