Of the many perks that come along with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, perhaps the most enticing, is access to the Switch’s vast library of virtual console games. With a myriad of platforms ranging from the NES all the way up to the Game Boy Advance, there’s a lot of legacy to be found. Yet when thinking about video game legacies, one title that quickly comes to mind is Tetris, which surprisingly hasn’t been available on the platform until well, today!
The initial announcement came earlier this month, and revealed that the iconic NES version of Tetris would be arriving on Nintendo Switch Online on the 12th of December. While this was exciting news in itself, that wasn’t all Nintendo had in store. It was shared today that Tetris DX, the version for the Game Boy Color, is coming along for the ride as well! As an extra sweet touch, Alexey Pajitnov, the creator of Tetris, gave the news personally in a video shared by Nintendo.
With the Tetris franchise celebrating its 40th anniversary earlier this year, the timing on this was perfect. It likely would have only been a matter of time before Tetris made its way to Nintendo Switch Online, and while it took longer than many would have anticipated, it was well worth the wait. Both Tetris and Tetris DX are available to be played right now on their respective Nintendo Switch Online platforms, so if you’re feeling nostalgic for this puzzle-solving masterpiece be sure to go check them out sometime!
