Back in December of 2023, Nintendo canceled plans to host its Nintendo Live Tokyo 2024 event due to “persistent threats targeting” employees of the company. At the time, no suspects were named and investigations by local law enforcement were kept under wraps. According to the publication Kyoto Shimbun, police have now made an arrest tied to the threats targeted at this event.

As per the report, which was shared by 4Gamer and translated by Nintendo Everything, the suspect was a man in his 20s who was a local civil servant in the Ibaraki Prefecture. While his name was withheld from the report, details of his threats were printed. He made repeated death threats through Nintendo’s inquiry form on the company’s website, which eventually became targeted threats at specific employees. No motive for his actions has been given.

More details are likely to come in the following weeks, but at least for the time being, everyone at Nintendo is safe.
