Early next year in Japan Nintendo fans were expected to descend on Tokyo’s Big Sight event hall for Nintendo Live 2024, following up last year’s event in Seattle. Unfortunately, it has been cancelled.

In an official statement, translated by Eurogamer, Nintendo reveals the cancellation is in part due to “persistent threats targeting our employees” which spread to spectators specifically regarding the preceding the Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals held later this month, with safety concerns being listed for Nintendo Live’s cancellation, too.

Nintendo Live typically features many tournaments but also features playable demos for upcoming games and even live concerts.

We’ll be sure to bring you news regarding when these events could take place going forward.
