Not only does it take the greatest time-sink of all time and make it even better, but it also operates as a vehicle for fun Nintendo crossover opportunities. Whether it’s seeing your favorite Nintendo characters in new backgrounds as you play or celebrating recently released titles in The Maximus Cups, Nintendo utilizes Tetris 99 as an effective hype mechanism.

The 39th Maximus Cup for Tetris 99 will continue this tradition. “Princess Peach Showtime!” will be the theme this time around. A video released by Nintendo’s official social media pages showcases a new background with four of Peach’s costume transformations from Showtime. These include Kung Fu Peach, Detective Peach, Patisserie Peach, and Swordfighter Peach against a dynamic backdrop.
If you want to participate in the Maximus Cup and experience the Princess Peach Showtime theme, you’ll have to make sure your calendar is clear for at least one day this coming weekend. The Cup will begin this Friday, April 5th, at 12 AM PT or your region’s local time zone equivalent. The Cup will be held until Monday, April 8th, at 11:59 PM PT. So you’ll have roughly three days to enjoy some Princess Peach-themed Tetris 99.
