It seems that making waves with his stellar performance as Bowser in last year’s Super Mario Bros. Movie wasn’t quite enough to scratch Jack Black’s video game movie itch, with Deadline now reporting that he has joined that cast of the Minecraft movie, reportedly in the role of Steve.

Who will star in the Minecraft Movie?

Besides Jack Black, other announced cast members include Wednesday’s Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks (Peacemaker, Orange is the New Black), and Sebastian Eugene Hansen. It was also confirmed that Jason Momoa will star in the film in an unannounced role.

Who’s Making the Minecraft Movie?

The latest in a new wave of video game adaptations, Minecraft is being worked on by a veritable smorgasbord of companies, including Warner Bros., Vertigo Entertainment, Legendary, and, somehow, Jason Mamoa’s clothing brand, On The Roam. Minecraft will be directed by Jared Hess (Nacho Libre, Napoleon Dynamite), though the writing team is still unannounced.

When is the Minecraft Movie Coming Out?

According to Collider, the Minecraft movie is set to arrive on April 3, 2025. However, it’s important to note that we’ve heard rumblings of this movie all the way back in 2014, when Mojang was quoted saying that the film was in “early development.” So even though it looks like we may have a cast and release date, it’s important to remember that these dates can always change.

Is There a Trailer for the Minecraft Movie?

No official trailer has been released as of yet for the Minecraft Movie. However, if you search YouTube, you will find LOADS of fan-made clickbait. Just remember, any official trailer will likely come from a major studio or from one of the film’s stars.
