Last week saw the surprising news that many fans dreaded – Charles Martinet would be stepping down as the voice of Mario after over two decades of performing the role. All we knew is that he would be stepping into a new role, the rather confusing “Mario Ambassador”, and a new voice actor would be stepping in for Mario and Luigi with Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Nintendo has just shared a heartfelt message from Charles Martinet with a guest appearance by Shigeru Miyamoto that finally explains what the role will entail while giving us some cute anecdotes along the way.

You’ll be able to experience the new voice actors for Mario and Luigi when Super Mario Bros. Wonder launches on October 20th, 2023. Charles Martinet will likely pop up at events over the coming years, too, so be sure to keep an eye (and ear!) out.
