It may be early, but so much of what’s been shared for the Super Mario RPG remake seems perfectly done. The faithful recreations of long lost characters (Boshi!) and reverent visuals showcase that well enough. It shouldn’t surprise that Nintendo and Square Enix have done the most correct move possible with respect to its music as well.

Yes, Yoko Shimomura is back for Super Mario RPG on Nintendo Switch.

Confirmed by the composer herself, Shimomura was behind the original game’s soundtrack. Many of those compositions are ingrained in fans’ memories, from “Beware the Forest’s Mushrooms” to the game’s infectious battle theme. As one of those fans, there’s no one else I’d rather have at the helm of SMRPG’s long awaited return.

Look forward to hearing her new takes on this familiar and beloved soundtrack when Super Mario RPG returns on November 17th.
