June – the traditional month of big game news – continues to roll on without a peep about a Nintendo Direct, and people are growing restless. After previous rumors that one would be on the way shortly, a tweet from @Pyoro_ND – a leaker who has gotten several details accurate in the past – suggested not only that the Direct would be coming this week, but that it would feature two particular titles: a new 2D Super Mario Bros. game, and a remake of a SNES classic:
In case you were 𝓦𝓞𝓝𝓓𝓔𝓡ing what games will be announced in this week's #NintendoDirect:
– A new 2D #SuperMarioBros
– Remake of a SNES classic— Pyoro (@Pyoro_ND) June 19, 2023
A new 2D Super Mario Bros. game could mean a new title in the dormant New Super Mario Bros. series, some sort of followup to Super Mario Maker, or a new title entirely. The other game is even more open-ended, as SNES Classic could refer to anything from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War to Chrono Trigger to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. We’ll just have to see if this prediction comes true in the coming days.
