When the Master Sword shatters at the beginning of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the player’s only option is to seek a way to restore its former power. Unless, of course, you decide to venture into the realm of fan-made mods, in which case Link can instead wield the iconic blade of another Nintendo character.
Twitter user @Cattail has recently modded the Monado, the mythical sword from the Xenoblade Chronicles series, into the latest Zelda title.
This is the Monado's Power!!
I've successfully modded the Monado into Tears of the Kingdom!!! Still a work in progress but very happy I was able to figure this out today as well as getting the emissive material!! #Xenoblade #TearsOfTheKingdom pic.twitter.com/n141diUPna

It’s a reskin of the game’s Biggoron Sword, so Link wields it as a two-handed weapon.
Cattail notes that the mod is a work-in-progress, and the modder also has plans to give the Monado an in-game description:
I’m gonna have fun doing the description when I learn how to edit text lol pic.twitter.com/719LntX0zV

Considering how well the weapon seems to blend into the world of Tears of the Kingdom, and how Xenoblade Chronicles developer Monolith Soft assisted in the development of the game, it’s surprising that Nintendo itself did not allow an official Monado weapon to be summoned in the title via the Shulk amiibo. Zelda predecessor Breath of the Wild even had a Xenoblade-themed side quest in its DLC!
Still, speaking of downloadable content, we have yet to see what’s in store for updates to Tears of the Kingdom. We don’t need the Monado’s vision-granting powers to know that the game still has a bright future ahead of it, and more Nintendo crossovers like this would be most welcome.
