After an extended hiatus due to the pandemic, Nintendo will be returning to PAX East this month — but with one big caveat.

Yes, Nintendo will be back at the popular gaming expo, but it will not be showing off The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the company’s biggest title of the year. Nintendo tells the Boston Herald that they have other plans for their booth.

“Nintendo’s presence at the show will be dedicated to competitive play activities. More details will be revealed at a later date,” a Nintendo spokesperson said.

While no details are given, this likely means games like Splatoon 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and possibly Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will have showings and tournaments at the event.

It’s definitely disappointing to not have any hands-on demos of Zelda, but we have to admit that it’s still exciting to see Nintendo returning to in-person events!
