The initial reveal trailer for Fire Emblem Engage highlighted a central premise of bringing back classic Lords from throughout the franchise to serve as companions in battle, focusing primarily on perpetual franchise golden boy and nigh-mascot Marth. We did get a glimpse of a couple other returning heroes though, one of whom has just been properly introduced: Celica, deuteragonist of Fire Emblem Echoes (originally Fire Emblem Gaiden), warrior princess and priestess of Zofia.

Besides showing her off in designer Mika Pikazo’s art style (opinion: she looks fantastic), we also catch a shot of her in battle, assisting the character Céline (hey, similar name). It’s notable that Celica is described as the “Emblem of Echoes,” implying she fills the role on her own, meaning her fellow protagonist and boyfriend Alm may not be making it in. The implication at the moment is that past FE titles will get one cameo character a piece, but we’ll have to see how that shakes out. In the meantime, there’s also a short conversation between Celica and protagonist Toothpa — I mean, Alear.
Fire Emblem Engage releases January 20th, 2023. If you’d like to experience Celica’s adventure in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, you have a limited amount of time to nab it digitally before the 3DS eShop closes down.
