Square Enix recently revealed the sequel to Octopath Traveler to the world in the latest Nintendo Direct, with a fairly soon release date of February next year. And there’s good reason for that: the game is quite far along in development, as revealed in a Famitsu interview translated by Noisy Pixel.

“We’re excited to finally announce to everyone that Octopath Traveler II’s development is 90% complete. We are currently in the last stretch, so we ask that you wait just a little bit more. Keep an eye out for further information coming out at a later date.”

So the full game is on the brink of completion as it’s announced. This is slightly unusual for Team Asano games, which are somewhat known at this point for releasing demos partway through development that players offer feedback on to help shape the final game. Perhaps the lack of such a thing this time is an indicator in the team’s confidence in direction. Or maybe Square just had them on a more expedited development track this time around. Who can say?

Octopath Traveler II releases February 24th, 2023. You can pre-order your copy on Amazon today.
