Square Enix had quite a few announcements for yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, but one of the biggest was the reveal of Octopath Traveler II coming next year, a sequel to the popular 2018 RPG. Well, it turns out that 2018 RPG was popular indeed, as the company’s just revealed the game’s sold 3 million copies, complete with art to celebrate.

The apparitions of a sobbing Olberic and smiling Primrose behind new protagonists Hikari and Agnea (who inherit their roles from the past game) is pretty funny and sweet, a nice symbol of passing the torch to the next title. With all luck, the sequel will be just as — if not more — successful in the long run.

Octopath Traveler II launches February 24th, 2023.
