Yesterday, we saw the Squid Research Lab put the spotlight on the Tacticooler, one of three new special weapons revealed during last week’s Splatoon 3 Direct. Today, the official Splatoon Twitter account is already detailing the second new special weapon – the Wave Breaker.
Another found object hodge podge (I spy half of a badminton birdie), this special weapon can emit waves in the area for a short time.
Of course, no special weapon is perfect, and the Wave Breaker can be "defeated" by the advanced strategy of…rechecking video…jumping over the waves it sends out? Huh. Still, making an opponent jump from a hidden position could lead to a win. And that makes it win adjacent! pic.twitter.com/bpvWHNOWs7

Getting caught in the Wave Breaker’s signals (the “waves”) will not only cause damage to Inklings and Octolings on the opposing team, but also track their location. If you’re up against one, you’ll have to time your jumps just right while also dealing with opponents (or inking the map).
You’ll also see this new “feature” appear in Splatoon 3’s Salmon Run thanks to Big Shot, a boss Salmonid. They aren’t using a Wave Breaker, but their own cannon device that can shoot projectiles that’ll do the same thing. Time to “get gud” in regular matches and Salmon Run, huh?
You’ll be able to give Wave Breaker a spin when Splatoon 3 launches on Friday, September 9th. Or, if we’re all lucky, it’ll be featured during the Splatoon 3 Splatfest World Premiere on Saturday, August 27th.
