Since Splatoon 3’s release date was pushed back to fall, the Squid Research Lab has slowly shown off its finding on the upcoming game. Building off of its last announcement, that all basic weapons from Splatoon and Splatoon 2 would be returning in Splatoon 3, this week’s features the Charger weapon class. The sniper weapon of the Inkling and Octoling world can splat opponents in one shot, and paired with great Sub and Special weapons, can help turn the tide of any Turf War.
Squid Research Lab back with a report on “charger” weapons. We’ve been saving this one for a while and building up power. And that’s exactly how these weapons work! Press and hold ZR patiently for a powerful shot that can hit faraway targets. Let’s see some examples. pic.twitter.com/akTC6TnzbE

First up is the Splat Charger. Hailing from both Splatoon and Splatoon 2, it gets a brand new design for Splatoon 3. We’ve seen it in action already, thanks to the new release date announcement trailer, Salmon Run Next Wave trailer, and Return of the Mammalians trailer.
This is the Splat Charger, a balanced weapon with good range and medium charge time. Our game-theory experts say that if you can attain the high ground with one of these, you’re “going to go all splat-a-tat-tat on the other team.” Is game theory science? We’re no longer sure. pic.twitter.com/tGvalhPBBA

Returning from both Splatoon and Splatoon 2 is the Classic Squiffer! Its design for Splatoon 3, features some purple accents with touches of light blue. At least with this particular model that the Squid Research Lab shows off. Previously, we’ve seen a slightly more blue version of the charger in promotional artwork for Salmon Run Next Wave.
Next up is the Classic Squiffer. It’s a lightweight charger that charges so quickly we hesitate to even call it a charger! (But to be technically correct, we will continue to do so.) It doesn’t have great range, but rewards a dynamic play style with plenty of stop-and-pop action. pic.twitter.com/QfqYfGPvQM

Lastly, we have the E-liter 4k, and this heavyweight charger debuted in Splatoon 2. Its Splatoon 3 version will be sporting plastic blue parts (instead of yellow) and will have even more of a metallic shine. We’ve known about this particular charger since Splatoon 3’s official announcement as it made an appearance during the 4 vs. 4 Turf War segment.
Finally, we have the E-liter 4k. This is the granddaddy of the chargers—a weapon with massive range that takes a long time to charge and consumes tremendous amounts of ink. It’s not for everyone, but in the right hands, it can be devastating. pic.twitter.com/Hhg6KKJ50Y

That’s it for the charger weapons, for now. More will definitely be available once Splatoon 3 launches as well as any ongoing support/updates that Nintendo will have planned (similar to the previous games).
You can try out these charger weapons for yourself when Splatoon 3 launches on September 9th for Nintendo Switch. Don’t forget to secure your copy of the game too! You can check out a list of retailers you can order from in our pre-order guide.
