Most games wouldn’t get a big red carpet for their release on Nintendo Switch Online. Most games aren’t EarthBound. The revolutionary 1994 JRPG and its legendary 1989 predecessor not only got a big advertisement spot in the Nintendo Direct, but a full-blown three and a half minute introduction trailer with some odd vibes — which is really perfect for the series, isn’t it?

Narrated by a guy who sounds half like a typical Nintendo presenter and half your weird friend who tried to get you into the series a decade ago, it begins by having Ness die in Smash Bros. (rip) before getting into the classic pitch for the SNES masterpiece: an unconventional RPG in an urban world without any dungeons or dragons, one just as quirky as it is disturbing and dangerous. It even offers a couple light tips on approaching enemies. There’s also a brief segment at the end explaining EarthBound Beginnings, though it’s much shorter.

You can pick up both games from Nintendo Switch Online right now.
