Way back in March 2021 we brought you the news that Forever Entertainment, the team behind Panzer Dragoon’s remake, would be working on several remakes for one of Square Enix’s IPs. Thanks to yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, we finally know what they have been working on.

The Polish developer is similarly tackling an old, relatively niche Japanese franchise, though this time it’s a strategic RPG with some mech flair. Front Mission got its start in 1995 with the Japan-only original for the Super Famicom, but it has had quite the hiatus (beyond the panned spin-off Left Alive). Now, it’s back, and in full 3D.

That’s not all, though, as after the company’s remake of Front Mission launches in 2022, the sequel will be getting the same treatment.

Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct also shared a fair bit of gameplay, spotlighting the combat and confirming some rather faithful character portraits.

You’ll be able to battle some Wanzers on Switch later this year.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
