Nintendo Directs are frequent enough that the patterns and expectations set in. Requests, predictions, and telltale signs start pouring in. Those commonalities are great, but it’s the surprises — the unprecedented teases and possibilities — that make these.

That is the verified account of Shigesato Itoi sharing today’s upcoming Nintendo Direct. In gaming circles this man is renowned for his creation of the Mother series, making this mention extremely notable and potentially earth-shattering.
Itoi specifically tweets “7am is an amazing time. It may be snowing.” As far as the commentary goes, he might just be talking about the weather, or he may be dropping some sort of hint. Every Mother game has a snowy area, but it’s hardly something the series is best known for, so… it could mean everything. Or not.
Maybe it’s nothing. Maybe it’s just good will. Maybe EarthBound or Mother will come to Switch Online. Maybe whatever it is is Japan-only.
