Nintendo released their first financial report from the fiscal year set to end March 2022 this morning, and while the report shows a small decline in hardware sales compared to the same quarter last year, the sales information released alongside the report shows that Nintendo’s newest flagship console has hit a pretty significant milestone.

The Nintendo Switch has hit 89.04 million units sold in its lifetime, surpassing the PlayStation 3’s nearly 88 million lifetime units sold. That number positions the Switch as the seventh best-selling console of all-time, and brings it strikingly close to surpassing the next two consoles on the list, the Nintendo Wii and the original PlayStation, with 101.6 and 102.5 million units sold, respectively. Given that the brand-new OLED Nintendo Switch model is launching this October, not to mention plenty of new titles coming later this year, the Switch could pass 100 million units sold by the end of the year, but only time will tell.
