In 2020, Pac-Man celebrated a monumental milestone – 40 years! Some of the festivities have continued on into 2021, notably the surprise release of PAC-MAN 99 for Nintendo Switch back in April. As for Pac-Man: Birth of an Icon, a retrospective book detailing Pac-Man’s 40-year history, was planned for a summer release this year. Unfortunately, this massive and comprehensive book has been delayed for a few months.

According to Cook and Becker, the book’s publisher, the delay is due in part to manufacturing logistics and that “[t]he history of video gaming’s first iconic character has never been documented so in-depth before, and in our research and interviews we kept uncovering new information.” Initially planned to ship this past week, it’s now on track to be released around mid-September for Europe and mid-October for North America, Oceania, and the rest of the world.

Checking Cook and Becker’s site, both the Standard and Collector’s Editions are expected to ship on Thursday, October 21st, whereas Amazon’s listing of the Standard Edition has a release date of Tuesday, October 19th. Both editions, including the limited to 2,000 copies Collector’s Edition, are still available to pre-order and range in price from $55.95 to $99.95 (plus applicable taxes and shipping fees).

Now with this delay in place, Cook and Becker has promised to “share more images and videos of what the final book has become via our socials, so you know what to expect when you receive this amazing volume.” For those who have pre-ordered their copy and want to follow along with all future updates, make sure to watch Cook and Becker’s official Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
