He may not be a fighter, but Masahiro Sakurai has never left Waluigi completely out in the cold. Whether as an Assist Trophy, spirit, or in the name of the always welcome Waluigi Pinball music track, the purple prankster is just outside the A-list of Super Smash Bros.

While it’s not about to lift the lanky loser’s mood all that much, Sakurai did wish Waluigi a happy birthday within last week’s screenshot anniversaries.

Mario Tennis (and Waluigi) – 21st anniversary

Fire Emblem: Three Houses – 2nd anniversary

F-Zero GX – 18th anniversary

Galaga – 40th anniversary

R.O.B. – 36th anniversary

Virtual Boy – 26th anniversary

Woah, woah, woah. The Virtual Boy is actually getting some love? Huh, I guess Waluigi is only the second most prominent punchline from last week. After all, the Virtual Boy was actually removed from Super Smash Bros. Melee’s Trophy Room when set to the English language. It’s only sneaking into Smash because Warioware’s 9-Volt is a top tier Nintendo fanboy that’s more than willing to put up with a headache or two to have a complete collection.
