It’s a long, long way from home in Route 96 – a procedural narrative hitchhiking game that has 148,268 route combinations. First debuting at The Game Awards 2020 and making an appearance during Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase in April, this summer tale of finding your way back home was included in today’s Day of the Devs stream hosted by Summer Game Fest.

This time we were treated to a slice of the game’s story and interacting with the character Jarod, a Happy Taxi driver who loves dinosaurs, but has an extremely short temper. Make your decisions accordingly, or you’ll end up on Jarod’s bad side (with a gun!) quickly.

The country of Petria has gone to hell. The regime is out of control. Time to escape, head for the border, the free world. The last of your parents’ savings in your pocket, thousands of miles at your feet, and a small hope of crossing the border alive.

Hitchhike your way across the country in the first ever procedural narrative game. Meet memorable characters, discover secrets, learn skills, to help you cross the border to freedom.

Your choices change your adventure, change people, change the world. There are thousands of routes along Road 96. Which one will you take?

Road 96 and its 148,268 routes to freedom, death, and more will be accepting travelers on the Nintendo Switch this summer.
