Creature in the Well left enough of an impression that I’m intrigued by anything Flight School Studio develops. Lately that’s been a tranquil mech adventure that gives a bug-sized view of its forest setting, something that sounds curious enough without the previous pinball pedigree. Previously we learned about Stonefly’s gameplay, but now Creative Director Adam Volker has shared more on the game’s world and characters.

One of the more interesting bits is the trio of source materials that steered the game’s vision. Volker notes they’re “…going for something that feels like Rogue One, shrunk down to FernGully size, written as a coming of age story.” Central to that is Annika, the game’s main character who joins up with a group of pirates called the Acorn Corps on a mission to recover her dad’s stolen mech – or rig, as they’re called here.

The vibe and designs on display here are reaffirming that good-faith I mentioned, and is keeping Stonefly on my radar. If it’s on yours now, you can look forward to picking it up on Switch and pretty much every other current platform this summer.
