While PNF-404 may remain uninhabited by Kopians, the planet has certainly gained a massive population of humans since its grand return to Nintendo Switch. Previously, Pikmin 3 Deluxe was reportedly suffering sales-wise in specific territories (especially the UK, as noted by Eurogamer), however, the enhanced port just became the franchise’s highest-selling entry at its home turf.

Over the weekend, Pikmin 3 Deluxe reportedly reached over 513,000 physical copies sold in Japan (according to sale data published by Famitsu, shared by Gematsu). While this total may not include digital units, the number of physical sales alone beats out the original Wii U release by more than double and both GameCube entries’ lifetime sales.

Looking for more Pikmin content while awaiting your next expedition in the awaited fourth entry? Our first episode of Nintendo Wire’s Tangled Wires, ‘Untangling the Story of Pikmin’, is an essay dedicated to Miyamoto’s original GameCube breakthrough that dives deep into what exactly Captain Olimar’s story is all about.
